Some dogs are more sensitive and cannot tolerate all snacks. This is increasingly common in dogs. A dog's immune system can be hypersensitive due to a food allergy. This is due to certain ingredients in the diet. It is more common in dogs that eat snacks

that contain fragrances, colors, flavors, grains and sugars than snacks that are 100% natural. Common allergic complaints are itching and/or diarrhoea. Does your dog ever suffer from these complaints? Then it might be time to start giving hypoallergenic food and snacks!
You often see the term 'hypoallergenic' on packaging, for example. The term 'hypo' means low and 'allergenic' indicates that you can get an allergic reaction to a substance. Basically, it means you have a lower chance of having an allergic reaction. It is then important to know which protein your dog is allergic to. People often think that dogs cannot or should not snack at all, but the opposite is true! With hypoallergenic snacks, it is important that the snack is composed of one animal protein source. So not, for example, that beef and lamb are mixed in a snack. It is often the case that chicken, beef and lamb are skipped in the hypoallergenic collections. This is because these types contain the most common protein and ingredients that sensitive dogs can suffer from.
Veterinarians work closely with science and they themselves do not know exactly where food hypersensitivity in dogs comes from. In humans, we know that you can develop an allergy to food that you have eaten little or never. If this also applies to dogs, it is advisable to experiment a bit at a young age with different foods and therefore especially with snacks for puppies.
